Ever wondered if you’re making your problems so fucking big that you can’t see anything else?
I’m not saying you don’t have problems. You do, babes. But sometimes two things go wrong and suddenly it’s, “My whole fucking life is ruined.”
Have you even checked what’s actually fallen apart? Or what you can still do something about?
I used to be like that too. Hahahaha.
A waiter taking too long between dishes was a major fucking crisis. I’m hungry, babes. My life cannot move forward until the fried pork arrives.
As I keep mentioning at the end of these posts, you’re very welcome to feed me.
Fuck. Accidentally turned that into a sales pitch. Back to the point.
People come to me saying they’re facing a huge problem. They’ve hit rock bottom. They don’t know how to go on.
When I first started doing readings, I’d immediately brace myself. Shit, what happened? What can I do to help?
But after hearing this enough times, I learnt to ask a few questions first. Because “my life is falling apart” means different things to different people. Sometimes they haven’t even sorted out what’s happening themselves.
One woman messaged me.
“My life has hit rock bottom. Is there any chance you could squeeze me in for an urgent reading?”
Naturally, I was concerned. What the fuck happened? Take a breath. Tell me.
“My boyfriend left me. My life has hit rock bottom.”
So I asked, “Did he physically hurt you? Did he steal your money?”
I was going through all the awful shit I’d heard about from other people who’d come to me.
No, she said. None of that.
“Okay. Is anything else going on?”
“I lost my job too.”
“Have you started applying for another one?”
“No.”
“Anything else? Take your time.”
“No. That’s everything.”
I went quiet for a moment, trying to work out where to start.
“Which part are you most worried about right now?”
Honestly, I had a guess. But let the woman answer before I start deciding for her.
“My boyfriend. I want him back.”
Right. There it is.
“What about work? With no income coming in, are you okay for now? Any bills you need to pay soon? Because so far, you’ve mostly talked about him.”
“Well… um… I’m worried about that too.”
Suddenly, much quieter.
Now, babes. I wasn’t thinking she had no right to be upset. Getting dumped and losing your job at the same time can absolutely knock you on your ass.
But the longer we talked, the clearer it became that what she wanted was her boyfriend back.
The job could apparently go fuck itself for now.
In the end, I told her I wasn’t going to do the reading. But I didn’t just abandon her to her fate, for fuck’s sake. I asked her to think about what she needed most urgently.
The thing that hurts the most isn’t always the thing you need to deal with first.
Getting dumped hurts. I get it. But having no income needs some attention too. How long will your money last? What needs paying?
Do your bills know you’re going through a breakup? Can they kindly give you a fucking minute?
No, babes. They turn up right on schedule.
More punctual than the boyfriend, actually.
So I told her, “How about you stop crying over him for a minute and apply for a job? How are you going to live with no money?”
Yes, babes. I said it like that. You know me.
And look at why you lost the job. Was the company in trouble, or is there something YOU need to sort out? If it’s you, work on it. Otherwise, you’ll end up in the same shit at the next job.
As for the man, look at where things went wrong.
If he’s an asshole, what the fuck do you want him back for?
But if you helped fuck things up, you need to be willing to look at yourself too.
Or maybe neither of you is an asshole. Maybe you just don’t work together.
And sometimes you just have to fucking accept that.
You’re allowed to want him back. But he gets to make his own decision too.
Some questions don’t need a birth chart, babes. You know more about your relationship than I do.
I wasn’t under your fucking bed.
I’m not telling this story to say, “That’s nothing. What are you so upset about?”
But I do want to ask: when did “I have problems” become “My entire fucking life is ruined”?
And why?
Try separating them out. What needs dealing with now? What can wait? Where do you need someone to help?
You don’t have to sort out your entire life today.
And you don’t have to wait until you’re done being sad, either. You can cry over your boyfriend and send out a job application on the same fucking day.
We live under capitalism, babes. Unless you’re rich, you need to make money. If there’s any left over, you can always spend it on some man later.
Look at me ending with a fucking plot twist.
Writers are always hungry. Please show mercy.
